Week one in the big Minerva house!

So week one of PGCE teacher training has gone and passed and already it's over and gone, a scary thought.

It's somewhat strage that I've gone from a five day week with 3 hours comute to a three day week with 20 minute commute, although this luxury is going to be shortlived as the pace picks up!  At the moment I am taking the time to compose myself for the fast paced journey ahead.

On the boat the cold mornings are just starting to set in making it a chore to get out of a nice warm bed in the morning however I have not had to fire up the stove yet.  I will have to chop up some logs ASAP to get my wood store ready for the winter months ahead, a task for this weekend maybe?

So so far I have been gate crashing booster sessions in Maths and English in order to get up to speed, it's a little akin to going back to school but very enjoyable and I have rekindled memories of the classroom that I thought were long gone.  The whole experience is somewhat daunting as the mountain to climb looms in to view but the whole point of a mountain is to conquer it and that is what us student teachers will do.

So having been inducted already we've looked at a whole number of topics including:
  • Grammar and punctuation;
  • Men in teaching;
  • Maths;
  • Phonics
  • PE;
  • Going on placement; and
  • Qualities of a teacher.
All exciting and interesting but much more importantly I found the canteen (very important), walled garden and beautiful lake in the grounds of the university.

As you will be able to tell from this post I have not picked up many tips from grammar and punctuation but you will, I'm sure, apreciate the ace of semi colons (or semi-colons) in my bullet pointed list.

Hey ho!

Off to the canteen it is.
